From Barriers to Solutions: Improving Colorado’s DR2401 Medical Reporting Process 

Abstract: 
The Colorado ADED Chapter will facilitate an interactive discussion regarding the Colorado DR2401 Medical Examination Report and the challenges associated with its use in the driver licensing and medical reporting process. Following a June meeting with Judge Watanabe, the chapter identified concerns regarding limited education and awareness among medical providers about the purpose and appropriate completion of the DR2401, as well as instances in which providers have declined to complete the form. Participants will review the current process, discuss barriers encountered by drivers and professionals, and brainstorm potential strategies for improving education, communication, and consistency in the medical reporting process. The discussion will also explore potential legislative and regulatory changes, along with other opportunities for advocacy and systems-level improvement.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Identify common barriers and challenges associated with the completion and use of the DR2401, including gaps in provider education and communication.
   
2. Discuss potential strategies to improve medical provider education, consistency, and communication related to the DR2401 process.
3. Identify potential legislative, regulatory, and systems-level opportunities for improving the medical reporting process and supporting safe, equitable driver licensing outcomes. 
4. Create a plan for next steps, including resource people who can help us

Attendance at the entire event is required to earn contact hours, no partial hours are awarded. Registration confirmation and payment receipts are e-mailed to the attendee. All cancellations must be made in writing to the ADED Executive Office by October 23, 2026; a 20% handling fee will be charged. Refunds will not be issued after this date or for “no-shows.” Partial refunds will not be granted. ADED reserves the right to modify content, timetable, change speakers, or cancel events due to unforeseen/unavoidable circumstances at any time. If ADED cancels an event, a full refund will be provided to registrants.
