Certification Package: Driver Rehabilitation Profesional (DRP) - HEALTHCARE Professional

Description: The Driver Rehabilitation Professional (DRP) microcredential represents a professional in the field of driver rehabilitation who, through successful completion of specific training courses, is equipped to provide service within basic and low-tech programs as per the Spectrum of Driver Rehabilitation Program Services. A DRP is obligated to follow ADED’s Best Practice Guidelines for the Delivery of Driver Rehabilitation Services to keep driver evaluations formalized and objective and attests they will adhere to the ADED’s Code of Ethics. The DRP microcredential requires a defined amount of continuing education to ensure continued growth and current knowledge in the field.

Requirements to earn DRP Microcredential:

  1. Apply for microcredential, pay fee and upload your current healthcare license/state registration 
  2. Healthcare professionals** will be required to pass a Traffic Safety quiz or attend the ADED Traffic Safety for Driver Rehabilitation Course
  3. Complete one of the following (education and course fees are not included in the DRP application fee):
    a. 35 hours of education from the course menu*
    b. Successful completion of a post-graduate ADED-approved university program certificate [proof required]
    c. ADED Mentor Curriculum Completion + 21 hours contact hours from course menu* [proof required]
    d. Complete the VA Driver Rehab Training Course [proof required]
    e. Successful completion of Adaptive Mobility Services Part 1 & Part 2 Courses (also fulfills #2 HC Traffic Safety Requirement) [proof required]
  4. Successfully complete quizzes: ADED Code of Ethics and Best Practices Guidelines (must obtain 75% or higher on each)

     - ADED's Introduction to Driver Rehabilitation (15 hours)
     - ADED's Application of Adaptive Vehicle Modifications (15 hours)
     - Recognizing and Assessing Perceptual, Cognitive and Behavioral Prerequisites for Driving and Connecting Outcomes to BTW Performance and Training (7 hours live or online @ ADED eLearning)
     - Pharmacology, Medications and Driving (1.5 hours online @ ADED eLearning)
     - Understanding Dementia for Driving Professionals (2 hours online @ ADED eLearning)
     - Older Driver Badge (10 hours online @ ADED eLearning)
     - Conference courses that are eligible towards the DRP Microcredential (will be denoted in the brochure and program as such)

  • Education and course fees are not included in the DRP application fee 
  • All education must be earned within 3 years of the date of application
  • All courses must be ADED administered
  • Score of 75% or higher on any course quizzes

Maintenance Requirements: The DRP must be renewed every 2 years & requires Proof of 15 ADED approved contact hours

Revocation:

The DRP microcredential will be revoked if:

  • The renewal criteria are not complete (see policy for complete information)
  • Renewal fee is not paid
  • Investigation has determined that the DRP microcredential has been issued under fraudulent claims

  • Please upload your attendance certificate from ADED's 2-day Course Traffic Safety. The course must have been taken in the past three (3) years.

    Proof of successful completion of a VA Driver Rehabilitation Training Program - Upload of completion of program required. Can be in the form of a certificate of completion, transcripts or other another official document to demonstrate the program was completed.

  • Driver Rehabilitation Professional Microcredential Mentor Curriculum

    Introduction:

The DRP microcredential requires a defined amount of continuing education to ensure continued growth and current knowledge in the field.

    For those applicants seeking to earn the DRP Microcredential through the route which is a combination of an ADED Mentor Curriculum and 21 hours of approved continuing education, this document shall serve as both a professional development plan (PDP), verification of mentor curriculum completion and verification of mentor contact hours. A minimum of 14 mentor curriculum hours shall be completed to meet this criterion. Please refer to ADED Policy 302 for more information.

    Definitions:

    • Professional Development Plan (PDP): A PDP is a list of actionable steps for achieving professional development and skills goals related to driver rehabilitation service delivery.

    • Mentor: For purposes of this curriculum, mentors shall be an ADED member in good standing and hold an active CDRS® certification.  

    • Mentee: For purposes of this curriculum, a mentee shall be an active ADED member and enrolled as a DRP microcredential applicant.   

    Instructions:

    Based on the competency areas of the DRP microcredential, the mentee shall identify those areas in which they are seeking skills development and knowledge. Mentees and mentees shall apply for pairing through the ADED website: https://www.aded.net/page/mentor. If there is a specific mentee/mentor an applicant wished to work with, there is a place to denote that on the application. This Professional Development Plan (PDP) will be used as a guide for areas of focus during the mentorship period.  This form is the minimum required documentation, additional pages may be added if needed. 

    This Mentor Curriculum is available as a component of the DRP Microcredential.

    These Best Practice Guidelines are intended to support ADED’s mission to promote excellence in the field of driver rehabilitation, thought leadership, and advocacy in support of safe, independent community mobility. In writing the ADED Best Practice Guidelines, the authors had full knowledge that this document does not stand alone: it is to be used in conjunction with the ADED Code of Ethics. Together, these documents form a firm foundation for the driver rehabilitation profession. It is ADED’s position that any person involved in the delivery of driver rehabilitation services (including but not limited to driver rehabilitation specialists (DRS), driver educators, allied health professionals, mobility equipment vendors, manufacturers, clients, and families) will conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner. In order to promote the best outcome for clients, prudent clinical judgment should be used at all times, including consideration of applicable laws and other guidelines or resources that may exist regarding the delivery of driver rehabilitation services.
