Introduction to Driver Rehabilitation 2026

Abstract

This ADED course is designed for the new driving evaluator.  The skills and knowledge needed to establish an adaptive driving program or become a new staff member for an established program will be discussed and shared.  The course will also cover the following topics:  development of a clinical and on road evaluation, basic training techniques, introduction to adaptive equipment, best practices in documentation and interactions with equipment vendors.  

Goals/Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the basic components of a driver rehabilitation clinical evaluation
• Analyze the basic components of a driver rehabilitation on road assessment.
• Assess the resources for networking within the driver rehabilitation community
• Develop the necessary and optional components for starting a driver rehabilitation program
• Identify the key stakeholders in the field of driver rehabilitation
• Assess the sequence of basic on road training techniques.

This course is applicable to those pursuing the DRP microcredential and eligibility for the CDRS exam. 

This course does not provide ADED Contact Hours for those already possessing the DRP or CDRS for renewal/maintenance hours. 

Video Viewing:

The system only counts time when the video is actively playing in the window you are currently using on your computer.

• Keep the video window open and active while watching.
• If you minimize the video window and only listen to the audio, that time will not count.
• If you cover the video with another window, that time will not count.
• If you switch to another browser tab, that time will not count.
• You must keep the video visible and active on your screen for your viewing time to be counted.
• Your viewing time is cumulative. You do not have to watch the entire video at once. If you watch a video in several sessions, the system will add your viewing time from each session toward the required minimum.

After watching all 15 hours of the recorded course, to earn the certificate of completion, you must pass a quiz with a score of 75% or better. 

• There are 25 questions, you have 30 minutes to complete the quiz. Select the best answer. 
• Once you begin the quiz, you cannot pause, stop or save. 
• You have 3 attempts to earn a 75% or better. 
• You may use any handouts from the course and ADED guiding documents.
