- This is a live-virtual, multi-day course conducted over five consecutive evenings for a total of 15 ADED contact hours.
- Attendees join the live-virtual event via ADED eLearning to engage in the learning event.
- Attendees will have access to the content and session recordings until April 14, 2025.
- The course notebook will be provided in a digital format one week prior to the course.
- Attendees will have access to an online discussion board to communicate with instructors and other attendees during the week of the course.
- To use this course for ADED credentials maintenance, attendance live for the duration of all virtual sessions is required to earn 15 ADED Contact Hours.*

Abstract
This ADED course explores various medical conditions and disabilities that can affect an individual's ability to drive safely. It covers acquired, congenital, developmental, progressive conditions focusing on their impact on driving skills. The course also delves into commonly used clinical assessments, adaptive training approaches, and adaptive equipment used in driver rehabilitation for these conditions. This course provides essential knowledge for evaluating and supporting individuals with medical conditions who wish to drive or continue driving.

- healthcare generalist practitioners needing to understand the connection between medical conditions and driving
- individuals referring to a driver rehabilitation program
Goals/Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between various types of medical conditions and disabilities that impact driving.
- Identify common symptoms of the medical conditions and their specific effects on driving ability.
- Define clinical assessments used to determine fitness to drive.
- Evaluate adaptive approaches and equipment used for various medical conditions in driver rehabilitation.
- Analyze the importance of individualized assessment and ongoing monitoring for drivers with medical conditions.

Refunds will not be issued after this date or for “no-shows.” Partial refunds will not be granted. ADED reserves the right to modify content, timetable, change speakers, or cancel events due to unforeseen/unavoidable circumstances at any time. If ADED cancels an event, a full refund will be provided to registrants. Laura Juel, MS, OTR/L, CDRS, ATP
Laura has been an Occupational Therapist for many years, spending the majority of her career within the Duke University Health System. Her work has been integral to advancing the Driver Evaluation Program, becoming a Certified Driver Rehab Specialist in 2008. She has been instrumental in developing an evaluation protocol with an emphasis on older drivers and medically compromised clients. She enjoys teaching and has provided mentorship to occupational therapists around North Carolina on how to address driving as an instrumental activity of daily living. She helped create the NC/VA Chapter to advance educational opportunities on a local level as well as foster networking opportunities. Laura has been an active member of the ADED organization on multiple committees and participating in the annual conferences.

Beth Rolland, OTR, CDRS
Beth Rolland earned her OT degree from Columbia University in 1997 and immediately began working in a driver rehabilitation program. She received her CDRS in 2000. Beth managed a driving program at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in NJ for 16 years prior to moving to Syracuse, NY. She is currently performing clinical evaluations at Upstate University Medical Center, where she works in a hi-volume neurological/concussion outpatient treatment program. Beth has been dedicated to giving back to ADED for many years. Her first involvement was on the Certification Committee. She served as Chair of the Professional Development Committee for two terms, during which she oversaw an update of the Best Practices document. She served two terms on the Board of Directors as a Member at Large, initiating both the Grant Ad Hoc Committee, and the Research Ad Hoc Committee, which has since become a standing committee with Beth as Chair. Beth served as President of ADED from 2019-2021.
Beth has been an enthusiastic lecturer on the topic of driver rehabilitation to OT students at Columbia, Seton Hall, Kean and La Moyne Universities, as well as presenting the ½ day CAMS course and speaking at countless conferences, support groups and in-services. She is currently a member of ADED's Speaker’s Bureau.
